Frequently Asked Questions

Are you accepting new patients?

We are currently taking new patients. When we are no longer able to accept new patients we will announce it on our website.

How quickly can I get an appointment, especially if I am a new patient?

We work hard to see a new patient in 1-2 days. We have enough staff to accommodate new patients and sometimes we are able to see you the same day you call. We also work hard to see established patients the same day you call. We want you to avoid going to urgent care or the ER.

What age patients do you accept?

We accept all ages from birth to end of life. We offer newborn care and we have also helped families with end of life care when hospice was not an option.

What kinds of insurance do you accept?

We take almost all insurances. Please contact our office at 256-524-3090 to determine if yours is accepted.

Do you accept cash paying patients?

Yes, we do accept cash patients. However, we will explore options to determine how we may save you money either by being a Wills Valley Family Medicine patient or a Valley Care DPC patient. For more information on DPC please visit our Valley Care DPC website.

How do I get in touch with someone at the clinic after hours?

Call DRMC (DeKalb Regional Medical Center) at 256-845-3150 and ask for Dr. Koe. They will connect you with Dr. Koe’s cell phone. This service is available Monday-Thursday 5PM-8AM the following morning and weekends 12 noon on Friday-8AM Monday morning.

Do you offer pain management?

We are a family medicine clinic and we do not offer pain management.

Will you call in a prescription for controlled substances after hours?

No, we will not call in a prescription for controlled substances after hours or on the weekends.

Do you accept Workers’ Compensation insurance?

No, we do not.

How do I access the patient portal?

Once you are a patient at WVFM you will receive an invite either through email or text to establish an account through our patient portal which is serviced by Athena Health. Once you accept the invite you will be prompted to set up a password. Please remember your password for ongoing future use. The patient portal is thorough in that you can manage your appointments, check lab results, review your billing summary and send messages to WVFM. Please take some time to familiarize yourself with how to navigate around the portal.
